Youth-to-Longevity Series 1

Exercise progressions you can use for LIFE

I believe exercise progressions you can use for LIFE are an important part of the modern school curriculum.

This is a project I’ll be working on for the next 10 years, since my wife and I are making a small school for our kids.

My goal is polishing maybe 8 really key progressions that could be taught in any school.

I will teach these 8 or so in the order I observe kids DESIRING to work on them.

So let’s start with the pull-up.

Whenever my kids see my wife and me working on pull-ups, they want to work on it too!

Level 1 is simply hanging from the bar.

This should be VALIDATED and EDUCATED.

Hanging is a WIN.

It has benefits for the hip, shoulders, and back!

Level 2 is then holding the top position.

Level 3 is trying to lower down slowly.

Level 4 is full reps.

And ever since my kids started working on them, Nana and Pop (my parents) started the same progression!

Nana can now control down well, and Pop can do pull-ups for the first time in decades!

This is not an end-all/be-all for pull-ups, nor is it “better” than any other system. It’s simple. It’s step by step. It works consistently. And it benefits the body. Those are my purposes.

I look forward to continuing the work on this subject.
